A message to our riders,
For us to operate, there are rules in place that you, our riders, are expected to follow. You may not understand the reasoning behind some rules, but be assured, they have been put into place for a reason. Primarily to keep everyone safe and also so we can maintain operations from a business and liability perspective.
Park staff will NOT TOLORATE being spoken to in any form of rude, disrespectful, or argumentative manners.
Please take a moment to review the rules and regulations on our website linked here (http://popkummotorpark.com/rules-and-regulations/)
As riders at the park, this means there are expectations of you to follow these rules if you wish to continue riding at the park. If you do not agree to these rules and regulations, your sole remedy is to not use the park.
Although all of the rules are important, these 4 in particular stand out as being broken on a daily basis!
1 ) Wear your wristband on your wrist (this means everyone at the park, not just riders)
- They are called wristbands for a reason. We expect you to wear them on your wrist and show staff if asked, without attitude! If we can see it, you don’t get bothered, so wear it on the outside of your gear.
- These wristbands show our staff that you have signed a waiver to be on the park property and paid to ride. It also lets us identify who you are if you get injured.
- This incudes ALL SPECTATORS! If you have someone here watching you, they must sign a waiver to be on the property. Spectators are FREE.
- If this is too much to ask of you, please find somewhere else to ride.
2 ) Wear your gear
- If you are operating a bike at the park, you are expected to wear the minimum gear of: DOT approved full face helmet, eye protection, long sleeves, long pants, gloves, and MX boots.
- If the bike is in motion, this is the expectation. This includes to and from the wash bay! Believe it or not, there is liability involved in running a motocross track and wearing gear to prevent injury is REQUIRED of you!
- If you are stopped for not wearing sufficient gear, you will have to walk your bike, no exceptions!
3 ) No riding in the front parking lot
- This means anywhere west of the red wristband check booth, north of the office, east of the park gates, & south from the freeway to the shop)
- As we have gotten busier and to ensure everyone’s safety as they sign in or spectate, there is no riding in the front parking lot. This has been a rule for the past 2 summers and many riders blatantly disregard it.
- If you are on your bike and it is rolling past the office, you are not following the rule. If you are starting your bike and taking off at the office steps, you are not following the rule. If you ride your bike to/from the shop, you are not following the rule. If you ride your bike to/from the wash bay, you are not following the rule (and you likely rode through the area and past the sign stating “pedestrians only”).
- You are told this at sign in, there are signs to indicate this zone. Parents of minor riders are responsible for their children following this rule. If we must remind you multiple times, you will be told to leave. No exceptions.
4) Keep an eye on your kids AT ALL TIMES
- It is NOT park staff’s responsibility to babysit your young children. We are located on a busy highway with lots of people coming and going. If your kids are running around, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EYES ON THEM AT ALL TIMES.
- KEEP OFF ALL EQUIPMENT! This means….. no climbing on the heavy equipment. The screener makes big rocks be small rocks, keep your kids off! NO climbing on the piles of supplies in the gravel pit (foam/plywood/etc). NO climbing onto roofs (round cover in parking lot/ Red Rider bus). No climbing on billboards.
- No playing in the porta potties. The door locks are not toys, it is not a fort.
- No playing on the MX tracks during park hours!
Our staff is here to help you have a great day of riding, we have dedicated our weekends all season to you and we work very hard to provide you with a safe and convenient place to ride (almost) year round. Having to police these same things daily and remind many of the same people repeatedly, honestly, it’s exhausting and takes most of the fun out of working at the park. The attitude and disrespect that we receive over enforcing these issues is appalling. If you can’t respect the park and the people running it, ride somewhere else.
Please do better or, again, please find somewhere else to ride.
Sincerely,
The Popkum Motor Park staff
