Riding Terrain
Overview
With 100 acres to play and new things being built all the time, you won’t have a problem finding somewhere cool to ride!
Plus, we have Level 3 First Aid on-site at all times, so you can feel safe riding at Popkum.
Grooming and maintenance is done regularly with our on-site artillery of heavy equipment and we water the track whenever necessary.
Main MX Track
Our main MX track is approximately 2.5 km long. Hosting the National in 2018, this track features sweeping corners, a giant step up, table tops and big jumps. The whole track is roll-able, making it accessible for new riders and experts alike. As a practice track, it’s the perfect place to build and perfect your track riding skills.
On busier days (weekends, holidays, summer time) we have flaggers on the main track. When flaggers are on duty, we run “family ride” for the first 15 minutes of each hour; family ride is the only time 50cc bikes are allowed on our main track, there is no jumping permitted, and it is the perfect time for slower riders to have a go at the big track without the intimidation of the faster riders. “Fast ride” by request for the last 15 minutes of the hour.
JR MX TRACK
Completely redesigned in 2018 and purposely built for beginner riders and small bikes, this track provides a safe controlled environment for parents to work with their kids or for inexperienced riders to learn on.
Don’t be fooled though, the track is pretty fun for riders of all levels, and experienced riders enjoy the close quarters of this small-area track. Anyone can ride the JR Track provided you are being respectful of anyone younger or less experienced.
Training Compounds
We have two beginner training areas. Both are large fields that provides a safe and relaxing environment away from the other tracks. If you are taking the Learn To Ride courses, this is where you will get your initial intro to riding. Specifically set up to train new riders, there are cones for various drills and training features around the perimeter, such as (learning) hill climbs, some small logs, and turns.
We also have an MX training area located at the far end of the family loop. In addition to a large open area, there are various MX sections with corners, jumps and tables to build your track skills away from the main MX tracks. This area is not monitored by flaggers and is located at the far end of the property where there may be some wildlife, so to keep everyone safe, there is no riding alone in this area.
Family Loop & Trails
The Family Loop is an access road that loops the perimeter of the tracks and enduro park. The family loop is how you access the 10acre EnduroX park, trail network and back training track. It is a great way to see the extent of the park or get yourself used to riding a new bike before you jump on the track. The family loop is for slow riding, not high speed tests. Please be cautious of two-way traffic and park maintenance equipment (like the water truck) using this road.
Our trail network runs off of the family loop at various access points. These trails are difficult/intermediate and should be thought of as training sections to prepare you for riding in the bush. They are steep and rocky, but wide enough for a SXS, so there is room to turn around if you need to. The trails go up into the hillside where there may be some wildlife. To keep everyone safe, there is no riding alone in this area.
Enduro Park
For riders looking for a different kind of challenge, we offer a 10-acre Endurocross park. The access road throughout the Enduro park is also a perfect “beginner trial network” for riders not ready for our trails.
What’s enduroX? It’s the hardest track you’ll ever ride – with some moto elements (jumps) and obstacles (rocks, logs, ledges, etc). Not for the faint of heart, but every obstacle is built with an “out”, so if you don’t want to do an obstacle, you can scoot around the outside of each one. The enduroX park is a great place for trail riders to work on their skills; with obstacles for all riding levels, you can master that big log so it doesn’t surprise you on your next trail ride!
Trials Obstacles
Located away from the main motocross tracks and tucked into the hillside, below our Training Compound, are some specially selected trials obstacles. Including large rocks, logs, and tires, a pipeline feature to really challenge your balance skills! You will also find some free standing obstacles in the gravel pit area.
You can climb up and over logs and boulders or try out the creek bed built by special request for our trials instructor Christy.
