First Time Rider Lesson Options
All beginner riders must know how to ride a bicycle with no training wheels before they can learn how to ride a dirt bike.
Cost:
$175 (semi-automatic for riders under 5′ tall) or
$200 (clutch for riders over 5′ tall)
This is a 3-hour group lesson including Honda trail bike and full gear rentals
The Honda Red Rider Intro is for absolute beginners who have never ridden a dirt bike (or any motorcycle) before. It is a basic introductory course for ages 6 and up (with bicycle skills) that includes gear and motorcycle rental – everything you need to learn to ride safely! Everyone in the Red Rider program is a first-timer so there’s no reason to be nervous, but if you are, bring a friend! We have lots of pairs who learn to ride together (parents and kids, siblings, spouses, and friends). Class sizes are kept small (3-8 riders), with a max 1:5 instructor to student ratio. If you have your own group of at least 3 riders (family, friends or work) we can make a private class just for you!
The first hour of the course covers safety information: gearing up and why safety gear is important, and then you learn the parts of the motorcycle and proper use of the controls. The following 1.5 hours take place on the bike in our specifically designed Training Compound where you will learn:
- How to put the bike in gear
- How to use the throttle to accelerate and decelerate
- How to use the rear brake
- Body positioning while seated
- How and why to stand on the pegs while riding
- Other topics include steering control, how to go over and around small obstacles
The last 1/2 hour of the course covers how to gear down and return your rental equipment.
Our Honda trail motorcycles are user friendly, lightweight, appropriately sized, durable, and confidence inspiring. The size of bike you choose is based on rider size, you need to be able to touch the ground to ride safely! Our semi-automatic bikes are 50cc and 110cc, and clutch bikes are from 125cc to 250cc. The gear you wear will also be sized to you and is the full line of the newest Fox apparel. You will get everything you need from head to toe: helmet, goggles, chest protector, jersey, gloves, elbow pads, knee pads, pants, and boots.

This lesson is for riders who already have motorcycle basics. Maybe you are coming from a road riding background and you want to take up dual sport riding. Maybe you used to ride dirt bikes when you were 16 and want to review the basics or learn the stuff you wish you knew the first time around. Whether you are new to dirt or looking to refresh, you will be glad you took this course! Building on skills you already have, we will cover the dirt-riding basics that will make you a safer rider, more confident, and ready to tackle the off-road world. Topics are specific to you (as a one-on-one lesson), but can include braking on dirt, body positioning, standing, clutch control, obstacles (logs and rocks), hills and more.
If you are interested in the dual sport or adventure bikes… “dirt first” is the way to go. Developing your skills on one of our user friendly, lightweight, appropriately sized trail motorcycles is the easiest way to build skills. Learning on a light-weight bike gives you the opportunity to practice skills with confidence, without having to worry about wrestling your heavy bike. You will gain skills and abilities that are greater than what your dual sport or adventure bike can handle, and then you can transfer those skills to your big bike.

Our instructors are very patient with new riders and inventive with techniques to start slow and build confidence. Our motocross instructors can teach you the basics to get into racing, or build on the skills you already have to help you get to the next level. We have built a specifically designed MX training area so you can work on your skills with your instructor in segments, away from the main track. Our main track is also equipped with MyLaps (transponders available to rent) so you are able to time yourself before and after to see the progress you have made! Designed as one-on-one lessons, they can also be taken in a small group provided all the riders are of a similar riding ability and wish to get a similar outcome from the lesson.
Riders in MX training require their own bikes. Membership and ride passes are required in addition to the lesson fee.

[Renters of motorcycles, ATVs and gear are] solely responsible for the rented equipment until it is signed back in by an employee of Popkum Motor Park. [Renters agree that] all rental equipment will only be used for riding purposes; only by the registered rider; and only on the Popkum Motor Park site and will not be taken off the site at any time. [Renters] agree that the replacement value of any equipment not returned, [and/or] the cost of any damages to any of the returned equipment, will be charged to [the Renter’s credit card or paid by the Renter].
If [a Renter is] found acting irresponsibly with rental equipment, or endangering others’ safety, Popkum Motor Park reserves the right to end the scheduled rental. A refund is NOT given in this case.
Any damage to any rental equipment (motorcycle, ATV, or gear) that has occurred as part of the rental shall be paid by the Renter or charged back to the credit card of the Renter. The damage deposit may be withheld and not refunded. The Renter understands that damage that occurs to rental equipment may exceed the damage deposit, and they will be responsible for the entire bill, which may not be known until repairs are completed.
Renters will be responsible to pay for damage such as bent or broken levers, bars, perches, cracked or broken plastic, ripped seat covers, damaged exhausts/mufflers, etc. You will be billed for the full amount of the damages (parts, labour and/or replacement) caused by you. Popkum Motor Park will be responsible for engine or drive train problems, including flat tires.
Upon completion of repairs, we will either refund any balance due to the renter or send the Renter a bill for repairs and parts (or charge the credit card on file). Like our competitors, replacement parts will be original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts and charged at manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP). Unlike our competitors, will charge actual labour costs as opposed to inflated “book rate” labour charges. Our labour rate is $110.00 per hour. In order for us to have a warranty on parts and accessories, we must buy them from our local vendor. Therefore, we cannot accept parts sent to us from the customer. We will not match internet prices for parts and accessories.
Popkum Motor Park is not responsible for personal items left unattended at the track.
- Reservations are recommended for all motorcycle/ATV rentals and gear rentals.
- Your bike or gear rental will only be reserved if you have paid for it. Once we have received your payment, we may send you confirmation and let you know what to expect on the day. Rentals and riding run rain or shine.
- There is no minimum age for renting motorcycles and gear, however, minors may need an accompanying adult to rent equipment. You must be at least 16 years old to ride a rental ATV.
- A credit card is required for all rentals of motorcycles/ATVs and gear because all rentals (bikes/ATVs and gear) require a damage deposit. Damage deposits range from $25 for a pair of gloves to $1500 for performance bikes. Call or email the track to inquire about damage deposits if you need more information. If you are coming from the US, be sure to notify your credit card company beforehand.
- Lessons are required for renters with no riding experience in order to rent a bike from us. Riders may be asked to prove riding proficiency. If a lesson is required (it is not included with your rental) there will be an additional lesson charge.
- Only non-licensed off-road vehicles are rented for use at Popkum Motor Park. Renters of bikes and gear are solely responsible for the rented equipment until it is signed back in to an employee of Popkum Motor Park. Rental equipment will only be used for riding purposes, and only by the registered rider, and will not leave Popkum Motor Park at any time.
- If you are found acting irresponsibly with rental equipment, or endangering others’ safety, Popkum Motor Park reserves the right to end your scheduled rental. A refund is NOT given in this case.
- Renters will be responsible to pay for damages such as bent or broken levers, bars, perches, cracked or broken plastic, ripped seat covers, damaged exhausts/mufflers, etc. You will be billed for the full amount of the damages (parts, labour and/or replacement) caused by you. Full payment for the damages is required prior to your departure of the facility. Popkum Motor Park will be responsible for engine or drive train problems, including flat tires. - If you wish to cancel your paid rental reservation, please see our Cancellation Policy.
- All riders must sign a waiver and wear a wrist band while riding at Popkum Motor Park. Remember that both parents must sign minors’ waivers (under 19 years) before minors are allowed to ride, so you may need to print them out, sign them at home and then bring them with you.
